How is Molded Fiber Packaging Made?

The molded fiber products are made from plant fibers, such as sugarcane pulp, wood pulp, bamboo pulp and recycled paper. These raw materials are mixed with water to form a certain concentration of slurry. Then, they are molded under vacuum on custom CNC molds. After being dried and shaped at high temperature and high pressure, the materials become dense and smooth. The molded fibers packaging have strong shaping ability and excellent shock resistance, and is a new type of beautiful and environmentally friendly high-quality sustainable packaging material.

The Manufacturing Process of Molded Fiber

#1 Pulping and Mixing

Starting with fiber materials like raw sugarcane pulp, wood pulp, bamboo pulp and recycled paper, the raw materials are shredded and refined through a sequence of processes to break them down into fibers. These fibers are then suspended in water to form a pulp slurry. The pulp concentration can be flexibly tailored based on the final product, ensuring alignment with production requirements.

#2 Forming

The pulp slurry is transferred to the forming mold through a vacuum system, forming a wet pulp body. This pulp body retains high moisture content but has already taken on the basic form of the final molded pulp product.

#3 Drying Process

After forming, the pulp body usually contains a relatively high amount of moisture. To ensure the performance and quality of the pulp molding, drying process is indispensable. After the formed products undergo drying treatment, they meet the requirements for subsequent processing and use.

#4 Hot Pressing

Under high temperature and high pressure conditions, a hot pressing process is carried out to make the sustainable packaging's appearance neat and smooth. A tighter bond is formed between the fibers, increasing the hardness of the product, as well as its hardness, stability, and toughness and impact resistance.

#5 Cutting

After hot pressing, the moulded pulp products still have burrs along their edges. In order to make the product smoother, the cutting process is usually required. Different cutting methods can be chosen according to the product requirements.
