Good Choice of Plant Fibre Molded Plastic Free Packaging      Good Choice of Plant Fibre Molded Plastic Free Packaging suppliers

In the current business world, environmental protection is no longer a novel concept. Everyone is eager to focus on this aspect. However, as a supplier of plant fiber molded packaging, the most genuine and heart-wrenching feedback I have received from the brand side is: "The product is indeed excellent and the environmental protection measures are in place, but... is it a bit too expensive?"

Let's be straightforward and talk about it openly. Today, let's have a discussion. Does this so-called "plastic-free" plant-based packaging really have market competitiveness?

1. Don't just focus on the "purchase price"; you need to consider the overall cost.

If you only look at the unit price of each tray, it's true that plant fibers are slightly more expensive than plastic. There's nothing to hide here.

  • Raw materials: The plastic is made from petroleum by-products, whose prices have been kept low for decades; while we use bamboo, sugar cane residue and wheat straw. Although these materials are abundant everywhere, the costs of harvesting and fiber processing are indeed higher than those of plastic pellets.

  • Production line: Plastic injection molding machines can be found everywhere. The technology is extremely mature. However, the production of plant fiber molded products requires pulping, hot pressing and drying. The initial investment in equipment and labor costs are indeed considerable.

But (and this is the key point), the account cannot be calculated in this way.

2. Those overlooked "hidden costs"

Many bosses often overlook the costs related to logistics and storage when comparing prices.

Traditional plant-based fiber packaging is indeed "thicker" and takes up more space than plastic. However, technological advancements are rapid nowadays. For instance, our family's "Easy Assembly Tool Paper Packaging".

The ingenious part here is that we have designed it in a flat-packable structure. What does this mean? It means that its volume is significantly reduced during transportation and storage. Previously, one truck could only carry 1,000 items, but now it can carry 3,000. As a result, the logistics cost per item is instantly reduced, and it can even compete with plastic.

3. The extra cost actually represents "premium" and "insurance"

Why do major manufacturers keep shifting to plant fibers even though they know the unit price is slightly higher?

  • Consumers are willing to pay more: Nielsen's data shows that over 60% of consumers worldwide are willing to pay extra for eco-friendly packaging. This has become a powerful tool for brands to attract more followers.

  • Avoiding policy fines: The "plastic restriction orders" in various regions are becoming stricter day by day. Instead of waiting for the fines to arrive at your doorstep or being ordered to remove the products, it's better to make the arrangements in advance. The legal risks and public relations costs saved at this time cannot be compared to a few cents per unit.

  • Brand Premium: The same tool, when placed in a transparent plastic casing, becomes a "street vendor item". But when it is placed in a custom-made, textured pulp molded box, the "high-end feel" and "sense of social responsibility" are fully present. The product is sold at a higher price, but customers actually feel it is entirely reasonable.

4. Real Case: The "True Bliss" After the Pain

I have two client cases that are particularly representative:

  • A certain food brand: When we first replaced the plastic packaging, we were extremely sad because the cost increased significantly. But what happened in the end? Within less than half a year after the product went on sale, not only did the sales volume increase, but also because of the "environmental pioneer" image, we received many spontaneous media reports. How much money was saved on advertising costs?

  • A tool factory: After using our flat-pack packaging, not only did the storage costs decrease by half, but the market share also increased significantly due to the positive reputation for "minimalist eco-friendly style".

The final few words of my thoughts

If you ask me, is plant-based fiber packaging cheaper than plastic at present? My answer is: The unit price still isn't, but its "overall competitiveness" has already won.

As the technology becomes more refined and the scale effect takes effect, the price is sure to drop further. As business owners, should one stick to the old path of plastic or embrace the trend and capture consumers' minds in advance? Everyone here surely knows the answer.
